Tokoeka, a genetically distinct Rakiura brown kiwi, is unusual as it forages in daytime. Early morning, we Zodiac onto several beaches to find very fresh tracks of tokoeka on the high-tide line, with the distinctive probe hole marks alongside the footprints, but each time the kiwi has moved on before us. I observe where it’s been and create the scenario.
