Pipits in the Sheltered Gardens
Pipits in the Sheltered Gardens
Oil on board, white frame
850 x 850 mm
Pipits, Bald Cone, Port Pegasus, Rakiura
Small and unassuming, the Pipits arrive in a sheltered
pocket of vegetation, a cranny of growth that survives
out of the bluster of wind. A microclimate of warmth
from the sun-warmed stone that allows plants to thrive
in a harsh environment and gives the fossicking Pipits
seeds and insects to find. Small pools of water, collecting in carved out pockets, provide places for passing birds to refresh, before continuing along.
