Peter Latham was a keen photographer from an early age, but didn't turn professional until he went on a bicycle expedition of the South Island, with all his camera equipment! He spent many years travelling the world as a photographer on cruise ships, returning home to New Zealand in 2003, when he began experimenting with images on canvas.
Using the ultimate Phase One photographic equipment, Peter travels the length and breadth of New Zealand to capture iconic landscapes in breathtaking detail. Constantly seeking new inspiration, Peter conducts extensive research to uncover fresh subjects and locations that engage his audience. Much depends on being in the right place at right time, thinking on one’s feet and capturing the light at just the right moment. It’s a combination that demands a trained eye and much dedication and patience. Peter prints all his own work using a large format printer with archival pigment inks onto acid- free canvas or 100% cotton-rag fine art paper. These processes are state of the art & the materials used are the highest quality available. Peter holds an enviable list of personal collectors & corporate clients worldwide - including Swedish Camera Manufacturer, Hasselblad.
“Those moments when you happen to be in the right place at the right time are really rare, timing is critical & the light may only last for seconds. Whether it's wading through muddy mangroves or dangling from a tree for a better view, a degree of madness helps a lot! I strive hard to be original & capture iconic images that portray a unique moment in time." – Peter Latham
