These works reflect a moment of transition in my practice: abstract paintings that begin to hint at bodily presence, domestic gesture, and emotional resonance. The title 'Yield' speaks to a giving way of boundaries, and to spaces that are both defined and fluid, personal and geopolitical. It also reflects ideas of material change, as seen in the glass works of my gallery partner, Jarred Wright. While abstraction, often grounded in the landscape, has been a foundation of my work, these paintings take a more deliberate interest in how the body particularly the maternal body—can be implied, felt, or remembered. The intimate family tableaus reflect a quiet negotiation between holding on and letting go.

This series for ‘Yield’ is a play on colour and form. My aim was to keep things simple, technical and elegant. The fabrication technique is quite complicated to actually achieve these forms, but pushing through the difficulty is the part I most enjoy. I find the challenge rewarding - well, when it works out that is.   All were made by hand on a bench burner, utilising breath, subtle movement and a lot of gravity to help the glass to shift.
