Kirsty Nixon

Auckland artist Kirsty Nixon constantly drew and painted as a child, however it wasn’t until she was 18 that she began to take her art seriously, selling watercolour pieces alongside her other full time work. Time spent working in advertising pushed Kirsty to explore words and imagery and enjoying the clever boundaries design and literature can push. However, the artistic pull was strong and Kirsty chose to become a full-time artist in 1997. 

These days Kirsty paints mostly in acrylics, and although she has explored other subject matter, she is  constantly drawn to the New Zealand landscape in its various guises, along with our native birds. Her imagery is often presented as though the viewer is looking through plant life onto a scene, almost as if the leaves have been pushed aside and were just within reach of our unique coastline or dramatic rolling hills.
