Helen Dean is a painter based in Titirangi, New Zealand. Working from her home studio, surrounded by native bush, she creates vibrant abstract paintings.

Helen’s starting point is colour. Created with multiple layers of thick and thin paint, her paintings then slowly take form. She explores a range of different marks and techniques – some gestural and some more controlled. Avoiding using a formular, Helen allows each painting to develop in its own way, aiming to find a balance between light and dark, loose and controlled.

Helen obtained her BA (Hons) Fine Art in painting in the UK in 1995 but only returned to painting in 2015. Since then, she has had a regular painting practice, exhibited in shows, produced commissions, and has sent her work to collectors around the world.
