Christine was born in the deep South, Tuatapere – gateway to Fiordland, and many family holidays were spent in Central Otago. So she grew up among some stunning scenery, vistas that inspire her paintings today.A self-taught artist, Christine’s paintings are semi abstract landscapes that are earthy and textural. They are inspired by the New Zealand landscape, particularly Central Otago, Mackenzie Country and Canterbury.Christine’s paintings reveal landforms shaped by time, weather and human activity – leading to an ever-changing terrain. There is often a touch of both flora and water in her paintings that allude to the idea of the land sustaining life. These also help to soften the painting and give it movement. Her paintings have layers of colour and texture through which Christine chisels, scrapes, eliminates, adds back and interacts with the painting to reveal the essence of a landscape. Christine’s artworks are held in corporate and private residences throughout New Zealand.
