Ben Reid is a Christchurch based contemporary printmaker. He majored in printmaking at Ara School of Art and Design (Christchurch), specialising in intaglio, more specifically drypoint and relief printmaking techniques. 

Ben’s creative practice explores issues relating to New Zealand’s environment, in particular the factors that have contributed to changes in the balance and make up of our unique and fragile ecosystem.  Ben is interested in how the introduction and arrival of predators like rats, stoats, ferrets and cats has pushed numerous native birds to the brink of extinction. Ben’s critique of the vulnerability of ecosystems in the 21st century are impossible to dismiss, his prints providing subtle, yet pointed, reminders of the fragile nature of New Zealand’s native species, redirecting the circumstances and possibilities of their resolution back at the viewer.
