Emma Butler

Emma has been a practicing artist since completing her degree in Textiles at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK in 2001.  Specialising in Print, Emma was awarded a First Class Honours Degree. She went on to win the “Best Use of Colour” Award, sponsored by Dulux paints at the prestigious New Designers Exhibition in London, England.  After designing a paint range based on 4 of her paintings Emma embarked on her professional career as an artist aged 21 and has been painting ever since.

With a passion for illustration, Emma’s paintings offer the viewer to see reality through her rose tinted glasses, executed in bright layers of acrylic paint. Her works can be best described as quirky and fun; a colourful escape from reality with a humorous twist, like pages from a children’s storybook.  Vibrant colour and a sense of narrative are what Emma continues to explore.

“I love colour! It can pick you up and transport you, it can stimulate the senses and blow you away.  Colour is all important in my work”

Emma moved to NZ, Queenstown in 2005 after traveling the world, and has a studio situated in the heart of Queenstown where she creates her original work. Emma has been published by Hallmark Cards and more recently by Image Vault of Christchurch.

Ruby is the most recent character that Emma has dreamt up, influenced by the amazing colours of the trees in Central Otago, particularly in Arrowtown in autumn. Ruby is mischievous and keen for adventure. She is a happy soul who definitely has the awe and the wonder.

Her paintings adorn many a happy home throughout the world.  Emma has exhibited in both England and New Zealand and recently in New York, USA. Many galleries in New Zealand represent Emma’s work.
